What motivated you to become a Registered Dietitian?
I was a runner in high school and started to get interested in how what I put into my body influenced my performance. My mom was actually the one that suggested studying dietetics because of this interest and I never looked back!
How would you describe your nutrition counseling style?
My counseling style is completely centered around the client’s needs. We talk about goals and motivation behind those goals, action plans for getting there, and in my opinion, one of the most important topics, working through barriers. Making life changes is super challenging, so my goal is to help clients learn how to work through the tough parts and then build enough confidence where they know they can keep that change going.
What advice do you have for people that are just getting into nutrition and wellness?
Find what works for you. Nutrition, health and wellness continue to be a buzzy topic and so many are people are sharing their success stories (which is wonderful), but above all, it’s important to remember that what works for someone, might not work for you. Seeing a health professional, like a dietitian, can be a great way to get started by figuring out what your wellness goals are and how to achieve them.
What’s your favorite food and why?
Oh wow, this is a tough question! If we’re talking fresh food, watermelon, hands down. In the summertime, this is always in our refrigerator. Recently, I discovered Hippeas, which are chickpea puffs (basically like Cheetos, but these are better IMO). Sounds super weird, but they are oddly SO GOOD.
What do you like to do for fun?
It sounds cheesy, but hanging out with my husband is one of my favorite ways to have fun because he is SO FUNNY. Nearly once a day, I get to a point where I can barely breath because he makes me laugh so much. Outside of this, I love trying new restaurants, being with my friends and family, cooking, traveling, doing yoga, and taking walks along the lake while listening to a podcast (weather permitting, of course).
